Decadent Drinks was present at the Campbeltown Malts Festival 2024 and they bottled a limited edition for the occasion. While the label says Glen Toon 11 Year Old, their website already hints at Glen Scotia distillery.
Glen Toon 11 yo 2012 (53%, Decadent Drinks for Campbeltown Malts Festival 2024, first fill bourbon hogshead, 225 btl.)
Nose: I immediately got a flashback to the Cooley 1992s from Cadenheads. An intruiging combination of goat stables (and ditto cheese), wet dogs and a muddy farminess. After some time this fades and clears up, with Glen Scotia’s lactic / buttery edge. Hints of dusty books and old metal tools, yellow apples, orange peels, sea air and a few drops of sunflower oil.
Mouth: a fruity core (green lemon, orange, apple) with ginger and hints of chilli. The highlight is Glen Scotia’s old-school industrial character though. Hints of walnuts, subtle metallic notes and dried herbs. Still hints of this specific peatiness. Then light honey and scorched fruit cake. Cinnamon and subtle smoky touches.
Finish: fairly long, on wood spice and dried herbs, with zesty citrus, light nutty notes and a sweet dusty note in the end.
Very good, with above average complexity for the age. The unique Campbeltown notes make this interesting and enjoyable. In short, a lovlyfestival bottling with good value for money. Still available from Decadent Drinks.
