Glen Ord 2007 (WhiskySponge)

Glen Ord 2007 (WhiskySponge)

Glen Ord, one of the Singleton distilleries while most of the production still goes to the Johnnie Walker blends. Considering it’s an active distillery I have tried very few expressions.

In our glass today is a Glen Ord 2007 recently bottled by Decadent Drinks in the WhiskySponge series.

Glen Ord 13 yo 2007 (48,5%, WhiskySponge 2021, refill hogshead, 337 btl.)

Nose: a light start, on grassy notes, lemon cordial and lots of gooseberries. Green apple peelings. Green tea with lemongrass. There’s also a nice waxy, oily side and a faint flinty touch.

Mouth: pure no-nonsense whisky made for the summer. Some hoppy fruits, wine gums, green tea again. Hints of sweet malt, ginger and pear eau-de-vie. Distillate-driven with no frills whatsoever. Plenty of zesty notes and traces of limoncello.

Finish: medium, on lemon zest, sweet grass, ginger and a light hint of Schweppes.

Well you can’t just focus on old, collectible stuff, can you? This is a summery drinker’s whisky, aperitif style. Light, not very complex and easily drinkable. This sold like hotcakes, but you’re all going to drink it, right? You really should.

Happy birthday, Angus!
