Another Clynelish 1996, sourced from the Sansibar stocks and bottled for Whisky-Maniac in Germany. Don’t mind if we do… In fact this shop currently has four more exclusives from Sansibar.
This comes from the same parcel of casks that also brought us the recent WhiskyNerds bottling. Expectations are high.
Clynelish 24 yo 1996 (54,6%, Sansibar ‘Clans’ for Whisky-Maniac.de 2020, bourbon hogshead, 282 btl.)
Nose: a very round, oily profile that is fairly gentle but nonetheless displays all the key elements. Candlewax, subtle chalk, sweet apples or quinces and maybe a hint of pineapple. Paraffin and vanilla. A minty, blossomy and old-style shoe polish note in the background.
Mouth: more punchy than the nose suggests, but still with a classic oily texture. Vanilla cake, a lot of sweet citrus notes and custard, with plenty of beeswax, fragrant candles, grape sweetness and ripe banana. Herbal hints as it evolves, while getting drier and also showing white pepper and hints of chalk.
Finish: long, drier but still very waxy, with grassy touches, sweet fruity echoes and light herbs.
On the same level really, this is excellent aged Clynelish, full of waxy notes with a good dose of fruit and Highlands punch. Another textbook release. Now available for € 250 from Whisky-Maniac.de.
