Vintage-Whisky acts as an importer for Cadenheads, Asta Morris and other whiskies in Israel. Some time ago they also released their own independent bottling. The inaugural release is a Caol Ila 2006 from a refill hogshead.
Caol Ila 13 yo 2006 (55,6%, Vintage-Whisky 2020, refill bourbon hogshead #302307, 263 btl.)
Nose: a mix of sweet pears, vanilla biscuits, lemons and a mezcal-like smokiness. Hints of brake fluid and linseed oil. Plenty of coastal elements as well: sea breeze and oyster juice. A light mentholated and floral touch as well.
Mouth: quite sharp and briney at first, just perfect spirit with lemons, crushed black peppercorns, green apples and acrid smoke. Fish oil, iodine and brine. Getting a tad sweeter over time, or if you add water. Subtle camphory notes. A light hint of mustard in the background.
Finish: rather long, still very chiselled, on brine, kippers, oak spice and grapefruit.
Simply a tasty Caol Ila, with a good balance of coastal sharpness and sweeter elements. A safe bet. Around € 120 if I’m not mistaken, check Vintage-Whisky.com
