Chapter 7 is an independent bottler born in 2014. The company name and some other wordings like whisky anthology, monologue or anecdote are all inspired by literature.
This Anecdote is a 24 year-old blended malt whisky, apparently blended at birth and distilled in July 1995.
It’s a mix of 17% Laphroaig, 20% Highland Park and 63% of undisclosed Speyside whiskies, married in two bourbon casks. Perhaps one of these Edrington malt bases but this time with some Laphroaig?
Anecdote 24 yo 1995 (47,9%, Chapter 7, blended malt, 2 bourbon barrels, 424 btl.)
Nose: slightly old-school in the sense that it’s not too fruity but rather waxy and earthy, with wet hay and dried flowers. Wet gravel. After a while it also shows orange peel and yellow apples. Behind this is some leafy, earthy peat, not very prominent.
Mouth: much more peat now. Sweet smoke, mixed with waxy notes and a slightly floral, carbolic, almost soapy touch. Then back to vanilla pastry and hints of bread dough. Sweet grapefruits and oranges. Wet limestone and a hint of chalk as well.
Finish: medium, with a nice mix of smoky notes, wax and cereals.
Good, although the peat is perhaps a little too shy and some people will have difficulty with the soapy edge. Available from their online shop. You can become a member to get a discount on all purchases.
