While browsing through the Master of Malt catalogue I found this Tomatin 2008, a single cask selection exclusive to them. It’s a first-fill bourbon cask.

Tomatin 11 yo 2008Nose: almost entirely on sweet barley with some bananas and creamy vanilla custard. Apples. Oaky notes (ginger, cinnamon, crushed mint leaves) as well as buttered toast.
Mouth: drier now, with the fresh oak (shavings) being more prominent and the spearmint becoming louder. Peppery notes, bread and many spices. I’m missing a fruity component now, the only thing I’ve found was a grapefruit bitterness.
Finish: medium long, with peppery notes, cut grass and more fresh oak shavings.
Not exactly bad, but too focused on the bourbon wood – this could have come from plenty of distilleries. Exclusive bottlings are usually more inspired, funnily I don’t think they’ve promoted it either. Still available from Master of Malt.
