I believe this will be the first time I’m having a dram from North of Scotland or Alloa distillery which was only active between 1958 and 1980.
North of Scotland 46 yo
(41%, That Boutique-y Whisky Co 2018, Batch 1, 193 btl.)
Nose: actually very round and rummy, with much less of the spikey notes that we sometimes get in grain whisky. There’s marzipan and bananas flambéed. Buttery croissants filled with vanilla custard. Polished furniture. White chocolate. Very smooth, in a good way.
Mouth: very minty, with some sourness, peppery notes and green apple. Crystallized oranges. Rather rummy again. Funny hints of old genever too. Liquorice, some grassy notes and heather.
Finish: not too long, rather more naked with juniper, aniseed and mineral notes.
A very interesting mix of bourbon, rum and… genever at some point. For those who are tired of the coconut and cream style. Master of Malt has it of course.
Score: 84/100
