The Dalmore Luceo is part of a no-age-statement travel retail range named The Fortuna Merita Collection. Each of the four expressions is finished in different types of sherry casks seasoned with sherry from Bodegas González Byass. The partnership between Dalmore and this bodega go back more than 100 years.
The Dalmore Regalis is finished in Amoroso sherry (a sweetened Oloroso), The Dalmore Luceo in first-fill Apostoles sherry (a sweetened 30yo Palo Cortado), and The Dalmore Dominium in first-fill Matusalem sherry (30yo sweetened Oloroso). Valour combines Matusalem casks and Port pipes.
The series was launched late 2014 but was recently remarketed / joined with Valour, and they seem to be available outside of the travel retail circuit as well.

The Dalmore Luceo (40%, OB 2014, Fortuna Merita Collection)Nose: indeed really sweet, with plenty of creamy toffee and caramel notes up front. Cherries in syrup, as well as almond cake. Some mocha and raisins. It reminds me a bit of the Nomad whisky, although in a single malt version and with a more elegant profile.
Mouth: really soft, yet there’s a dark, slightly bitter side that stands out. Coffee, lots of roasted nuts (hazelnuts, walnuts). Gingery notes as well as Seville oranges. Cinnamon powder and dark cocoa. A bit tangy but really fine.
Finish: on the short side, with the same aromas and a warm spicy glow.
Not bad at all. I’m not always a fan of Dalmore’s sherry profile, but this is enjoyable if you’re looking for a smooth and sweet whisky. Around € 85 (70cl). Regalis is € 75 (1 liter) and Dominium € 120 (70cl).
