To know more about Exile Casks and their first release The Trojan, read my post from last saturday. It’s an undisclosed 25 year-old Speyside single malt bottled from a refill hogshead.

‘The Trojan’ 25 yo 1990Nose: very nice and aromatic. Juicy yellow plums, baked red apples and stewed mixed fruits. Sweet rhubarb and honey. Nice hints of polished wood, hay and dusty libraries too. Subtle wax and floral hints. Seems a refill sherry cask. Very elegant, bright nose, with the right balance of spirit, oak and sherry.
Mouth: a similar fruitiness on apricots, citrus and gooseberries. Honeyed notes, light biscuity touches. Nice balance with aromatic oak and spices (light pepper and liquorice). Chocolate notes towards the end. A more bourbonny oaky note now as well.
Finish: long, slightly drier. Some brioche, milk chocolate and raisins, alongside oak spices.
Great whisky and it keeps changing in the glass. Complexity is high, fun is assured. And it seems even older than it is – in a good way. As for the distillery, I’ve got traces of Linkwood but that’s a wild guess and it’s meant to be a kind of mix-up anyway. Around € 85. It will be available today on the Exile Casks website.
