Amrut 6 yo 2009 (62,8%, OB for Whiskybase 2015, ex-bourbon cask #3434, 150 btl.)
Nose: the nose is quite intense and smells more like other drinks than like whisky. I get some Brandy de Jerez (which is a Spanish brandy matured in sherry casks) as well as rummy notes. Stewed figs and red apples, some banoffee, guava and a generous dollop of vanilla syrup. Sticky toffee pudding and honeyed pastries. It’s not all sticky sweetness though, there’s an obvious sappy / woody note, some rose pepper, aromatic herbs and cinnamon.
Mouth: quite woody and herbal right away, dominating the other flavours. Roasted nuts, herbal liqueurs, burnt orange peel. Leathery bourbon. After that it picks up sweetness again, with mango, dark chocolate and cherry (not sherry) brandy.
Finish: long, fairly dry and spicy, with liquorice, lime leaves and chili.
Really interesting, very aromatic and a nice mix of brandy / bourbon / Scotch profiles. A little sweet and over-infused though, which brings along a dry, rather wood-driven palate. Better with water! Around € 90.
