Speyside region 1969 (Perfect Dram)

This should be Glenfarclas as well, a 1969 vintage and matured in a bourbon hogshead for a change.

Speyside region 41 yo 1969 (54,3%, The Whisky Agency ‘Perfect Dram’ 2010, bourbon hogshead, 195 btl.)

Nose: moderately fruit, mostly on apricot / yellow plum jam and ripe honeydew melon. Fragrant oranges. Vanilla cake. Nice beehive notes as well as polished furniture. Hints of cinnamon and ginger. Very elegant and anything but tired.

Mouth: quite oaky, with plenty of spearmint and eucalyptus, but without the dry mouthfeel of actual tannins. Maybe a little potpourri. Some earthy accents too. White pepper, green cardamom and ginger. More spices and sappy notes than fruits this time, although there are oranges and plums. Green tea.

Finish: drying further, long, with liquorice and walnut skin.

A really nice Glenfarclas, but not without its share of wood. High quality but slightly over the top. Around € 170 at the time.
