Jura 24 yo 1988 (50,8%, The Whisky Agency & Bresser & Timmer 2012, bourbon hogshead, 251 btl.)
Nose: very clean with some sharpish peat. Maritime notes of dried seaweed. Also linseed oil, a car workshop and some plastics. Menthol. A Spartan nose so far, it grows a tad fruitier over time (yellow plums and lemons) but it’s still a pretty austere malt. Hints of warm leather too.
Mouth: punchy, with mostly fresh citrus and coastal notes standing out. Oysters. Liquorice and ginger. Spicy while keeping a nice round feeling overall. Malty notes and resinous oak underneath.
Finish: medium long, slightly herbal and very salty. Some zesty grapefruit in the end.
Very sharp and chiselled, with just enough roundness to keep the balance right. Around € 120.
Score: 89/100
