Enmore in Guyana is nowadays a couple of stills rather than an actual rum distillery, as all former distilleries have been dismantled and equipment taken over by Demerara Distillers. We’re not sure whether this Enmore 1988 bottled by The Whisky Agency has been produced on the Enmore pot still or the Enmore column still.
Enmore 24 yo 1988 (50,5%, The Whisky Agency 2012, 264 btl.)
Nose: intense combination of dark sugars (molasses, burnt caramel), toasted oak and liquorice. Sweet black liquorice. Quite some woody overtones, as well as herbal notes (cough sweets, bouillon cubes). Nice baked banana and dried prunes in the background. Some rubbery notes too.
Mouth: sweet and herbal (cough syrup again), lots of sweet liquorice. Plum jam, some raisins. Liquorice root. Aftertaste on spices, Angostura and red vermouth (not the crappy Martini though, say Martelletti or Lacuesta).
Finish: long, herbal and slightly medicinal, with a lingering sticky sweetness.
Curious rum (for a relative novice), a bit on the dark and heavy side but quite a pleasant experience, especially if you appreciate liquorice flavours. Around € 115.
