This is the latest Tamdhu Batch Strength release as far as I know. It is a combination of first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry casks. I’ve also tried Batch 6, Batch 4 and a few others.
Tamdhu Batch Strength (55,8%, OB 2024, Batch #008)
Nose: modern and rather high-pitched, with yellow berries and cranberries, vanilla and golden raisins, rather than the dark sherry notes. Oranges with cloves, hints of fruit cake, ginger and growing herbal notes.
Mouth: more oranges with ginger and firm peppery notes now. Walnuts and toffee, along with cinnamon and vanilla again. Then red apples, hints of sweet plums, honey and citrus peels. Woody notes (oak char) and roasted nuts are clearly noticeable, getting a bit rough after a while. Nicer coffee beans in the end.
Finish: medium long, with oak spice getting quite loud. Ginger beer and a faint hint of musty caramel in the end.
A consistent whisky that is rather tasty, even though this is not my favourite expression in Tamdhu’s core range. Some batches are a bit sulphury but this one is quite clean. Available from retailers like The Whisky Exchange or Tyndrum Whisky for instance.
