Turns out I still haven’t reviewed a handful of samples that I harvested at Spirits in the Sky early November. One of them is this Miltonduff 2011, one of the recent bottlings from The Nectar of the Daily Drams. It’s a joint release, selected from the Signatory Vintage stocks.
Miltonduff 12 yo 2011 (46%, Signatory Vintage / The Nectar of the Daily Drams 2024)
Nose: fruity sherry, with plenty of raisins as well as fresher berries, red apples and stewed orchard fruits. Light herbal notes. Then honey and raspberry ganache, with just a little exotic wood and peppermint. Subtle tobacco too. Nice and clean.
Mouth: similar mix of toffee and brown sugar, raisins, red apples and nuts, albeit a little more winey now. Darker than the nose, with a hint of charred oak. Then drops of cold coffee, along with dark chocolate, marmalade and hints of dried wildflowers or herbal tea.
Finish: medium to long, still on dried fruits. Also leathery notes, tobacco and dried herbs.
A good sherry cask that is pretty affordable. Not the most complex whisky with only 46% ABV, but perfect as a daily dram. Signatory really masters this style of sherry maturation, similar to their 100 Proof series. Still available at the source – Broekmans – and internationally from The Whisky Exchange for instance.
