Benromach Contrasts: Virgin Oak
The latest addition to the Contrasts range from Benromach distillery is a 10 year old matured in virgin oak casks. Benromach Contrasts: Virgin Oak comes from unseasoned casks, gently charred before they receive the gently smoky Benromach spirit. It comes after the Bordeaux finish from last year.
The new single malt is bottled at 46% ABV and will be sold for around £ 60. It is already available in the Benromach online shop. Stay tuned for our review early next week.
Dad’s Dram (The Whisky Exchange)
In time for father’s day, The Whisky Exchange created something dads really like. It is a marriage of selected Highland and Speyside single malts. What’s more, they are rare malts that they won’t have access to again… I’m sure more details will come out later on, but they promise baked orchard fruit, tarte tain, polished oak and toffee sauce.
Since father’s day is celebrated earlier in Belgium than in the UK, you might want to check it out now. Already available from The Whisky Exchange.
Bimber Spirit of the Underground n°6
Bimber distillery released the sixth batch of Underground whiskies, inspired by the London tube. The new stations are Wimbledon, Stratford, Oval and Wembley Park. All four are single cask releases which celebrate the sports history of these places.
The cask types used are really interesting: Moscatel sherry (Oval), Fino sherry (Stratford), Marsala casks (Wembley Park) and Vino de Naranja (Wimbledon). Every bottle costs £ 135 – they will be sold via ballot from 5th June online.
Macallan Harmony Collection: Vibrant Oak
A few days ago The Macallan celebrated its 200th anniversary with a Cirque Du Soleil performance. Now it seems they will also celebrate this event with a new release: Macallan The Marmony Collection: Vibrant Oak. The label even says in collaboration with Cirque du Soleil.
This single malt is a combination of first fill sherry seasoned casks and refill casks. Apparently the packaging and labels were made using oak shavings from the cooperage.
Glenmorangie Year of the Snake
Glenmorangie has a tradition of releasing a special edition for Chinese New Year. In January 2025 we can expect Glenmorangie Year of the Snake, a 23 year old whisky at 46% ABV. This 2001 vintage comes from bourbon and Amontillado sherry casks. Only 888 bottles will be available.
