Mortlach 30 Years - Midnight Malt

Mortlach 30 Year Old ‘Midnight Malt’

Mortlach will soon release a 30 Year Old expression nicknamed Midnight Malt.

On the side of the bottle it says The Darker Side of Speyside which could mean it’s intended as a darker, wintery dram. It is a combination of refill American oak with European oak, split to finish in Bordeaux wine, Calvados and Guatemalan rum seasoned casks.

A limited set of 350 bottles will be available in August 2022, bottled at 49.1% ABV. It will become an annual release afterwards.

Benromach Cara Gold Malt

Benromach Cara Gold Malt

Benromach distillery experimented with a low colour roasted caramel malt, more commonly found in breweries where it produces fruity and toffee flavours. Laid down in 2010 this has now resulted in Benromach Cara Gold Malt, a limited edition of 6000 bottles. It is peated to 12 ppm and matured in first fill bourbon casks.

Already available from The Whisky Exchange and TyndrumWhisky among others.

The well received Lum Reek blended malt range is getting a new addition in the form of Lum Reek 10 Year Old Cask Strength.

It contains single malts from Speyside and Islay, blended and re-racked into Billy Walker’s trinity of sherry casks, wine barriques and virgin oak. The first batch is bottled at 55.4% ABV and will cost £ 60. It is already in stock at Master of Malt.
