They keep ‘m coming, these Secret Speyside whiskies. I’ve even seen an independent bottler who started a Secret Series as there are now so many to choose from. Today we’re having one of these sherried 1993 vintages, bottled by Sansibar and exclusive to DeinWhisky.de
Secret Speyside 28 yo 1993 (44,9%, Sansibar for DeinWhisky.de 2021, single sherry cask, 284 btl.)
Nose: rich, clean sherry. Plenty of dried fruits, dark berries, hints of copper polish and Christmas cake. Prunes in armagnac. Chocolate and mocha. Also orange liqueur here and some tobacco leaves. Light minty / eucalyptus notes. Now the modest ABV makes it shier than some others, but the profile is rather perfect.
Mouth: same feeling. It shows stewed forest fruits, a nice orange / chocolate combo, prune jam, tobacco and cinnamon pastry. Some old sherry wood in the background. Gentle spices (clove, liquorice). Hints of earthy tea and a leathery feel in the end, with some toffee sweetness to balance it.
Finish: not too long, on cocoa, nougat and some roasted coffee beans.
A pretty great whisky, with a balanced amount of sherry notes, oak spice and dark fruits. My only complaint is that it felt a tad underpowered. A recommended every day drinker for sherry lovers. Still available from DeinWhisky.de
