We hear some new Whisky Jury releases will arrive soon, but for now let’s explore one of the latest bottlings, a Ledaig 2010 bottled from a refill cask.
Ledaig 2010 (52,4%, The Whisky Jury 2020, refill bourbon cask #17, 288 btl.)
Nose: beautifully naked, with peat and wet wool, as well as sweet lemon and some freshly baked bread. Smoked sourdough, where can I buy that? Wet rocks, some mulching leafs. Over time it develops more apples and lemons, with a hint of ozone.
Mouth: sweet and smoky onset, with the slightly dirty Ledaig character coming out. Very earthy, with some dark chocolate, tarry ropes and smoked almonds in the background. Lemons again, even hints of smoked peaches, ink and herbal notes. Great balance of power and drinkability.
Finish: long, slightly medicinal, now with more apples, chocolate and salty peat. Great tobacco and soot in the very end.
Just a clean, deeply smoky and relatively layered Ledaig, with some nice fruity touches and chocolate sweetness. Good selection again. Originally good value at € 80, but now sold out everywhere.
