This is the fifth release from the Wu Dram Clan (2 German + 2 Asian friends), a Ledaig 2009. Their releases often fly from the shelves by the way, so I’m not sure this is still available.
Ledaig 11 yo 2009 (54,4%, The Whisky Kingdom for Wu Dram Clan 2020, bourbon hogshead #700056, 279 btl.)
Nose: a bit of a carbolic peatiness. Smoky and slightly yeasty notes, lemony touches and saltwater. Earthy notes, a hint of eucalyptus and leather. Maybe just a little vanilla from the bourbon wood but overall a pretty austere, to-the-point peated whisky.
Mouth: a lighter style of Ledaig, mostly on sea shells, burnt pineapple and preserved lemonds, before the carbolic side and wee floral touches make it a little soapy at times. Nothing too bad though, just part of this style. Kippers. Greasy touches. Oysters with lemons.
Finish: medium long, with lemons, herbal touches and a little leather.
Great distillate and I like the combination of lighter notes with a deeper peaty side. The carbolic side is a bit funny but not a blocking point for me. Originally around € 100.
