We’ve seen several USA exclusive bottlings from Elixir Distillers in the past few months. One of them is a single cask Port Askaig 18 Year Old, distilled in 2000 and bottled from an ex-bourbon cask.
Port Askaig 18 yo 2000 (50,8%, Elixir Distillers 2019, ex-bourbon barrel, 250 btl.)
Nose: a tight coastal profile, with plenty of brine, tarry notes and iodine laden peat. Some mentholated notes, bright lemons, sea breeze. Hints of wet wool and a touch of sawdust. Classic.
Mouth: sweeter now, with custard, oranges and sweet apples alongside rich ashy notes. Medium smoke. Almonds, lemon candy, wet stones. Light chilli, followed by dried herbs and earthy notes.
Finish: long, still balancing between sweet citrus and herbal smoke.
Highly reliable Caol Ila (I suppose), punchy and coastal with a nicely rounded sweet touch on the palate. Only available in the US through their importer ImpEx Beverages, for around $ 250 if I’m not mistaken.
