Littlemill 1992 (Mancarella)

Dino Mancarella released this Littlemill 1992 for The Whisky Fair. I will also have a look at his recent Ardmore 1998 soon.

I’ve only tried two or three Littlemills since 2015, there have been new official bottlings but the indies have more or less dried up.

Littlemill 1992 - MancarellaLittlemill 27 yo 1992 (51,4%, Mancarella 2019, bourbon hogshead #29, 232 btl.)

Nose: typical old-style fruitiness (green bananas, yellow apples, melons, touches of guava and lychee) mixed with chalky notes and a big paraffin side. Hints of Earl Grey, mint and vanilla custard. Then more towards grassy notes, ink, linseed oil… Very complex and nicely punchy.

Mouth: slightly less fruity than I expected, mostly starting on mint, citrus zest and this Earl Grey again. Still some melons and mandarins. Herbal honey, green tea with jasmin, a salty note as well.

Finish: medium long, with vague fruits, a bit of resinous oak, fruit tea and citrus zest.

A great Lowlander with lots of tiny nuances. Not a fruit bomb but not an austere one either, just a great combination of the two sides. Maybe not the easiest style but I love it, nice to have a Littlemill again. Around € 320 if I’m not mistaken.

Score: 91/100
