The summit of the GlenAllachie core range is the GlenAllachie 25 Years. It is a mix of bourbon oak, Pedro Ximénez, Oloroso and virgin oak barrels.
GlenAllachie 25 yo
(48%, OB 2018, 6000 btl.)
Nose: very seductive, with nice fruity hints of tangerines, apricot jam, melons and fruit cake. Light tropical notes (pineapple cubes, guava juice). There’s also a distinctive waxy side, always a pleasure. Touches of honey and cinnamon.
Mouth: more punchy than the nose suggested. Sweet, oily texture. Starts with a little honey but the spicy notes take over rather quickly. Plenty of pepper, a little nutmeg and ginger. Sweet almonds. Orange peel. A light mineral / mentholated edge too. The jammy notes are much more in the background.
Finish: maybe a little heavy on the oak now, with plankish notes, gentian and menthol.
Quite complex with a nice fruitiness and more punch than you’d expect at this age. Active oak management, expertly executed. Available from Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange.
