As you know, there was a list of festival bottlings for The Whisky Show 2018, celebrating the 10th show. This is from the Future of Whisky series, three bottlings with special 3D lenticular labels. See my news post for more information.
This Ledaig 12 Years from Tobermory distillery comes from a sherry butt.
Ledaig 12 yo ‘Present Future’
(58,4%, The Whisky Exchange for Whisky Show 2018, sherry butt, 637 btl.)
Nose: earthy sherry, bacon strips, sooty notes. A little linoleum. Underneath there are lots of blackberries, black cherries and a bit of sugared espresso or stout. Roasted walnuts. Buttered toast. Tobacco leaves.
Mouth: deep tarry notes with maple syrup and dark chocolate, but also a nice refreshing minty side. Nice oily texture. A bit of oaky punch and salty notes. Cinnamon and pepper. Glazed chestnuts. Heavy flavours but finding a nice balance.
Finish: very long, ashy, with peppery notes and a deep chocolate sweetness.
Pretty much what we’d expect from a Ledaig, but in a particularly homogenous form. Very rich, good complexity and this typical, slightly unclean peaty fingerprint. Really good. Still available from The Whisky Exchange.
Score: 90/100
