Kilchoman Loch Gorm (2018)

I tried the first release of Kilchoman Loch Gorm back in 2013, I think it deserves a new look. The 2018 edition has been released not long ago.

This 6th edition is still a vatting of sherry casks, more precisely 19 Oloroso butts filled in 2007, 2008 and 2011. This includes some of the oldest sherry casks that have been released to date.

Kilchoman Loch Gorm - 2018 editionKilchoman Loch Gorm (46%, OB 2018, 15.000 btl.)

Nose: a really nice sootiness, grilled fish and cigar smoke. Hay and distant farmy notes. Hints of black olives. Sweeter notes underneath, cinnamon buns and cooked (red) fruits. Orange peel and lemon. No sherry bomb but the balance is really nice.

Mouth: muscular peat again, deep sooty notes and some oak spices. Burnt nuts, earth and cloves. Also raisins and dark chocolate. Black pepper. Coastal, lightly mineral notes too.

Finish: long, smoky and salt, still with some dark cocoa dusting.

I already liked the first release and this is better: the sherry is well integrated and the result is simply great. Kilchoman is coming of age, we may be on a turning point here! Recommended. Well priced at The Whisky Exchange especially if you use their current multi buy offer.
