Highland Park announced the release of its Highland Park Fire Edition, the successor of the Ice Edition and the last of this two-part series. The Fire Edition was matured in 100% refill Port wine seasoned casks for 15 years and is bottled at a strength of 45,2% ABV.
The Port wine seasoning is a first for Highland Park, we’re keen to find out how this blends with the distillery character. Although it is called a limited release, there will be 28000 bottles available for around € 215. It will start to appear on shelves towards the end of November.
Bowmore Black 50 Year Old is the final edition of the legendary Black series which started in 1994. Matured entirely in first fill Sherry casks, the 40,9% ABV whisky was filled on 5 November 1964 and has lain in the distillery’s No 1 Vault for its entire life.
The remaining two 1964 Oloroso sherry hogsheads were vatted together after the fourth release in 2007. Part of the mix was bottled as a 38 year-old and the rest was removed in 2014 (and stored in inox, I assume). This fifth release yielded 159 bottles.
While introducing the Bowmore Black 50, the distillery also confirmed the Bowmore Vault Edit1oN we talked about back in July.
Teeling Whiskey released two new bottlings from its Vintage Reserve Collection:
- Teeling 24 Year Old, a 1991 vintage matured in bourbon casks. It is limited to 5000 bottles and was produced with a small portion of peated malt. We expect something along the lines of the many excellent independent releases, like this or this or this. Around € 300.
- Teeling 33 Year Old, a 1983 vintage taken from two ex-bourbon barrels. Only 275 bottles are available at cask strength 42,9% ABV. It is believed to be the oldest bottling of Irish single malt ever and comes with a commemorative booklet (bound by hand) documenting the Teeling story. Around € 3500.
Today and tomorrow, the Belgian whisky festival Spirits in the Sky is taking place in Brussels. We hope to catch up with other new releases, so stay tuned for our report.
