Eifelboys, De Tongerse Whiskyvrienden, Whiskyclub Luxembourg, Vinothek Massen – three clubs and a shopping centre from the Eastern parts of Belgium / Luxemburg. Some of the people behind these names are the same so it’s no surprise they tend to share bottlings (check their Tomatin 1988, Caol Ila 1990 or Laphroaig 1997).
This time a cask of Glenturret 1986 was sourced from Signatory Vintage and shared between the Eifelboys and Tongerse Whiskyvrienden.
Glenturret 29 yo 1986 (49,6%, Signatory Vintage for Eifelboys & De Tongerse Whiskyvrienden 2016, hogshead #301, 173 btl.)
Nose: beautifully fruity, with sweet pineapple and a strawberry & cream combination. Loads of very ripe mirabelles, nectarines and apricot jams. Hints of honey and golden syrup. Vanilla biscuits. A hint of sandalwood and eucalyptus in the background. Very good, very creamy with slight tropical hints.
Mouth: same feeling of plums and apricots, with more zesty fruits now, grapefruit and bergamot. A good dose of oak as well – plain oak, as well as minty notes, wax and liquorice. A little ginger. A light chalky / fizzy note towards the end.
Finish: long, bittersweet, with oak resin, clove and grapefruit.
A very nice Glenturret. It reminds me of the semi-official Glenturret 1986 of some time ago, perhaps slightly better even. Retail price was around € 135 (remember it’s nearly 30yo!) but I hear it is sold out.
Score: 89/100
