Glenmorangie A Midwinter Night’s Dram started in October 2015 as a Sainsbury’s exclusive but was then distributed to other retailers in the UK a few weeks later. Word spread rapidly that it was a very pleasant dram, especially since it was originally available for around € 50.
This single malt features whisky drawn from select bourbon casks and Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks.
Glenmorangie ‘A Midwinter Night’s Dram’ (43%, OB 2016)
Nose: a profile that Glenmorangie masters perfectly. It’s rather light but very aromatic, sweet and candied. Vanilla with raspberries. Frosties and apricot jam. Orange peel. Plenty of golden raisins. Hints of cinnamon pastry too. Highly seductive.
Mouth: sweet and candied again. Brown sugar, pancakes with syrup and toffee, quickly followed by spicy notes. Candied ginger, pepper and cinnamon. Some milk chocolate.
Finish: medium long, gets slightly bitter (Seville oranges and zesty notes) with some nuts and raisins. Echoes of a bourbon whiskey, with its sweetness and spicy oak combination.
A designer dram again, unmistakably Glenmorangie. Lovely fruity sweetness alongside Winter spices. Certainly a winner at this price, I find it characterful and different. Sold out.
